Singular™ from Ideal Standard: Solutions for homes
Addressing issues that matter:
Energy And Carbon Reduction
All waste from our acrylic sheets used for producing bathtubs and shower trays gets fully re-granulated. In the last three years we have re-used around 4.000 tonnes of material which is sufficient to produce another 240.000 bathtubs. Groupwide, we are re-cycling 80% of our ceramic waste in either our own production process or to produce other ceramic goods. The total re-used ceramic slip waste adds up to just over 9.800 tonnes per year which is sufficient to produce over 100.000 new wall-hung toilets. We are also recycling 1.500 tonnes of press cake per year, enough to produce 26 miles worth of waste pipes. By 2023, we are aiming to convert another 17.000 tonnes of ceramic waste into a variety of new products on a yearly basis. Additionally, Ideal Standard is planning to source 100% of the timber used in its products from sustainably managed forests by the end of 2022. Sustainable forest management offers a holistic approach to ensure forest activities balance social, environmental and economic benefits, not just for today but for the future too. We are committed to exploring other opportunities that help conserve our natural resources. Responsible Use Of Natural Resources
Ideal Standard is actively working towards reducing its CO₂ emissions to achieve carbon neutrality. Recent and future key initiatives include transitioning to 100% renewable electricity in our UK ceramic site, investing in state-of-the art furnaces in our fittings plants and installing photovoltaic panels in our German production facility, which combined reduces our carbon footprint by more than 3.800 tonnes of CO₂ per year. Additionally, we are trialling to switch from fossil fuels to green hydrogen technology to power our kilns, which is going to be a critical project to the ceramics industry as a whole. Ideal Standard is further assessing the feasibility of solar installations across additional sites and also actively looking at how the entire business can move to fully renewable electricity in the future. We are dedicated to promoting the circular economy through the use of recyclable and sustainably sourced materials wherever feasible. Ideal Standard has already converted to 75% recycled plastic shrink wrap in most of our warehouse operations in 2019, reducing our virgin plastic consumption by 715.000kg to date. Furthermore, we are taking steps to remove all single use plastics in our fittings and ceramics packaging by the end of 2022, with the remaining product categories following in 2023. Sustainable Packaging
Waste Management And Recycling
Ideal Standard is exploring a wide range of projects to support our zero-waste to landfill initiative. We are already recycling 100% of our brass waste material which results from the machining and grinding process, and re-melting it into brass ingots. Since 2019 we have recycled enough material to produce over 1 Million new basin taps.
